Under a maroon scalloped awning on a white colonial-style shophouse, there's a tree heavy with golden mangoes and a sign that says exactly what you want to hear on a hot Phuket afternoon: FREE TESTING. Welcome to ORTA (โอติ๊ะ), the shop behind one of Phuket's favourite Thai tea brands.

Taste the Thai tea first

Right at the entrance is a chilled dispenser of ORTA's Thai Tea (Ceylon Oolong), sweet, creamy and properly cold, and you can try it for free. If you like it, the same tea comes boxed and ready to make at home. Look out for flavours you won't find elsewhere, such as Thai tea with mango and Thai tea with durian.

Coffee candy, spices and snacks

ORTA's coffee candy hangs by the door, a small and easy gift for coffee lovers. Inside, long shelves run deep into the shophouse, with Thai spices, snacks, dried fruit and souvenirs, so you can stock up on the flavours of Thailand in one stop.

The fruit that isn't fruit

That colourful fruit stall by the door isn't fruit at all. They're handmade fruit-shaped soaps: mangoes, bananas, mangosteens and more. They're fun, fragrant and very giftable. Check the “Buy 5, get 1 free” special offer before you pick your favourites.

Tip: Start with a free cup of Thai tea, then shop. It's the best way to cool down in the Old Town heat. There's also an ATM inside if you need cash.
