Walk through Phuket Old Town and most shops look much the same: rows of fridge magnets and elephant pants. Then a green awning on Yaowarat Road catches your eye. Under it are woven baskets of chili and lemongrass, glass jars of dried flowers and a big green heart that reads “A&A — Always and All ways GOOD.” Step inside, because this is the shop that makes the walk worth it.
Thai natural tea blends: flowers, leaves, herbs
The left wall is a library of tall glass jars filled with Thai herbal and flower teas. The flower, leaf and herb blends sit in clear jars, so you can see exactly what you're buying. Our favourite line is on the wall: “Anytime is a good time for tea.” The teas are light to pack and make a far better gift than another keychain.
Good Thai spices, keep it real nice
The right side is for cooks. There are bags of dried chili, dried lemongrass, chili powder, Thai curry pastes and ready-to-cook soup sets. If you loved the food in Phuket, this is how you take it home. The staff will happily point you to the Tom Yum soup kit, the easiest way to cook a real Thai classic in your own kitchen.
Souvenirs that don't feel like souvenirs
Further in, the shop opens into a long, bright hall full of gift ideas:
