Some shops you find. Others find you. On a street lined with pastel shophouses, Pornthip Old Town is the one that stops you mid-step. It's a two-storey Sino-Portuguese building painted lime green, with white arches, a carved balcony and a glowing gold sign that reads PORNTHIP OLD TOWN. Most people take a photo first, then walk up the patterned tile steps and end up leaving with a full bag.
A taste of Phuket you can take home
Pornthip is the place for the edible souvenirs Phuket is known for. Look for local pastries and sweets, boxed Thai tea mixes (including Thai tea with mango and Thai tea with durian, if you're brave), chocolate and almond snacks, and popular Thai spices. They're light, well packed and easy to share when you get home.
Gifts in a Sino-Portuguese tin
A favourite here is the Sino-Portuguese tin box, a gift tin printed with Old Town's colourful shophouses and clock tower. Fill it with treats or keep it as a keepsake. Either way, it's one of the most “Phuket” gifts you can buy.
Handmade bits and pieces
- Embroidered elephant keychains with colourful tassels
- Woven and cork bags, pouches and coasters
- Hand fans, scarves and small Phuket keepsakes
- A regular “Buy 4, get 1 free” deal on selected items, so it's worth stocking up for friends
Why it's worth the stop
It's a photo spot and a shop in one. The building alone is worth the visit. Souvenirs sorted in one go. Snacks, tea, gifts and handmade pieces are all under one roof. It's open late. Doors are open until 11 pm every day, so it fits around beach days and dinner plans.
